Bears Defeat Ice 4-1

Saturday August 11
Bears 4 def Ice 1

It was the second Ladies Night the Sydney Bears hosted on August 11 as we hosted the Melbourne Ice, with the celebration of the many women who make up the great sport of ice hockey in full swing! Melbourne came out strong but despite the Bears slower start, the Ice soon lost momentum and both teams were fairly matched in the first period with neither finding dominance. The puck spent the majority of the time in the ice's half but neither team could find the back of the net and the first period ended without score.

The second period started with a similar pace. Despite back to back penalties, the Ice failed to capitalise on the opportunity and seemed more interested in holding the puck rather than shooting. The Bears however, were not going to let being a man down stop them from burying the puck, with import Charlie Adams netting a short handed goal assisted by Ryan Lough and Jeremy Vasquez. The second period ended with the Ice biting back with a power play goal with just four minutes remaining in the period evening the score to 1-1.

Your Sydney Bears were determined to make sure that was the only goal the Ice scored, and they succeeded. Opening the third period with more dominance and speed than the first two. The first goal came at 18:32 by Ryan Lough from Michael Schlamp and Charlie Adams. The third goal of the night happened on the power play when Ice player Jeremy Chai sat two for slashing and Charlie Adams slipped one past Pine-Murphy with the help of Graeme Strukoff and Ryan Annesley.

Despite the ice stepping up their attack late in third, Kimlin proving that he still is a Great Wall stopped their chances of finding the back of the net. It was Ryan Lough who netted the fourth and game winning goal for the night assisted by Charlie Adams and Michael Schlamp and the game ended with the Bears taking away three points and securing their spot a little higher in their quest to finish in the top four.

See the Bears in action this Friday against the Northstars. Game starts at 7:30PM.
